son of Joan Carel Van Alderwerelt (1726-1791) and

in 1788, at the age of 23, he payed 18 Dutch guilders 

for a declaration of majority and received this parchment document of

with a confusing coat of arms

we think it might have belonged to a person with relationship to two families

Drooglever and De Bie

in silver an embattled black / sable fess 

with on it a lion passant, between seven bees (4 and 3)

we found two occassions where the two families are mentioned together:

in 1739, the marriage of Paulus GerritZn Drooglever & Petronella De Bie,

in 1770, the built of Het Hofje Van Mevrouw Van Aarden / Aerden

 in Leerdam, The Netherlands

Hofjes or Almshouses in Holland were managed by a board of members called Regenten,

Paulus Drooglever and Huibert De Bie were Regenten of that hofje,

their coat of arms are present in the building since 1770-1772

Dutch: dit is het wapen van de tot de Nederlandse adel behorende Indische familie Von Ranzow. De stamvader van deze familie is Ferdinand Heinrich Wilhelm graaf Von Ranzow 1828-1890, Oost-Indisch ambtenaar 1851, assistent-resident van Djokjakarta 1868-1873. Bij Koninklijk Besluit van 17 jan. 1872, nr. 7 werd hij in de Nederlandse adel ingelijfd met de titel graaf en gravin op allen.

on the shield, above the horn, you can see a diamond shaped figure, a first sight it looks like a crossbow,

but it is a space with the initial A in it

between 1802 - 1807 member of the city council of Nijmegen, The Netherlands,

in 1807 - 1808 one of the 3 mayors of the city Nijmegen, 

between 1803 and 1824 in Nijmegen the mayoralty had 3 mayors per term, one other mayoor with J. A. Scheers was Hendrik Willem Rappard

J.A. Scheers owned Huis Hatert, a dwelling with a tower, near Nijmegen, since 1803,

Huis Hatert / Hautert was built in the 14th Century as a castle, 

probably by Rudolf / Roelof Van Der Haltert / Haltart / Haetert / Hatert / Harter / Ter Hautert / Van Der Hautart

during the 80 / Eighty Years' War / The Dutch War of Independence 1568-1648, the castle was damaged, and later rebuilt as a house or farm, it was later also known as Spijker Hatert - Spijker is a granary / grain storage / in Dutch: graanschuur / Spieker

Huis Hatert also belonged to the family Van Bronckhorst (1552), Van Hasselholt Stockheim (1676), Justinus De Beyer (1690), Scheers (1803) the municipality of Nijmegen (1956) and Mr. Hofstee (2002)

Jan Adriaan Scheers married in 1791 with Elisabeth Hermina Luimes - born in 1764, she died in childbirth, in the year of her marriage, giving birth to their son: Petrus Steffanus Scheers (1791-1866)

Crocus Sativus

protecting the Safran inside

 the matrix has a heraldic coat of arms, showing:

on the shield a tree in full leaf,

as supporters two lions, 

one half and rampant, 

the other lion rampant and rear regardant with tongue and tail,

as crest a barred helmet 

an outcoming, half lion with tongue, tail and sword

we have not been able to trace this coat of arms

We have been looking for the combination 

of safran with the image on the matrix.

We came across the Swiss village Linn, 

in the kanton of Aargau in the Schrattentahl.

This village has a single tree as it's coat of arms,

that tree represents the famous 

Lime tree of Linn, 

also called the

Linner Linde or d' Lende vo Lenn

The region of Aargau is known for it's safran culture.

Safran was used as medicin during the pandemic plague of the Black Death 

during the 14th, up into the 19th century.

A saga of the Linn Tree is about the victims died of that plague,

who have been burried in a mass grave outside the village

and the tree was planted on that spot.
